Welcome to Campfire College at Hamilton Pool Farms!

Campfire College is a program that is centered around a campfire, and the things we can learn using, making, and maintaining them.  The goal of the program is to take kids through the skills they need to be confident and competent campers, and to help their parents become that way as well.  This program will meet every Tuesday from 9am - 2pm for a month, and will finish with an overnight campout on the property that is meant for the whole family.  These events are a fantastic time to build community with other families interested in being outdoors who desire to cultivate and deepen healthy relationships between themselves, their children, and nature.

In this program we will cover:

  • Fire safety, fire pit design, and how to make fires using matches, ferro rods, and friction.

  • Knife safety, knife maintenance, and how to carve some simple tools that are useful for cooking/eating by the fire.

  • Campfire cooking, the use of a dutch oven, and a few simple recipes for making our own dinner over a fire.

  • Camping basics, using our gear, appropriate layering of our clothes, camp hygiene and cleanliness, and the division of labor.

During the campout the parents will have their own instructor as the kids get run through their own programming.  The parents will learn what our knife and fire safety rules and expectations are.  How to appropriately run cooking and washing stations and other ways to share the work of having an excellent campsite with your whole family.  And, perhaps most importantly, you'll have had the opportunity to make friends with other families that share your interests.
