Week 6 Update - Young Farmers

Hi Families,

Another chilly one today, so we started off with a campfire and apple crisp in a Dutch oven which bakes with coals under and on top of the pot. It came out wonderfully delicious.

We also concocted some wonderful herb-infused honey, which entails very slow heating of honey mixed with lavender, lemon balm, and holy basil. This particular blend is excellent for helping with stress and anxiety. We then made chocolate mint lip balm - while discussing the merits of only putting natural products on our lips (cuz you end up eating it eventually, right?) Our blend is especially yummy: avocado oil, almond oil, cocoa butter, beeswax, peppermint oil, with a few drops of vitamin oil as a preservative. I hope y’all get to try it.

Our farm chores today included adding 5 giant bags of leaves to the compost pile (which of course means also dancing on, and leaping into the pile.) We also planted two plug trays of holy basil - can’t wait to get these planted on the farm again this year!

After lunch we did some village-style teaching where Mr. Braden took this class for a lesson on using bow drills to start fires, while I took his class to taste the infused honey and make lip balm.

I love your kids - they’re smart, quirky, fun-loving, and really considerate. We’ve had zero social issues this semester - just some really great connection. Hooray!

Thanks for tuning in,

Ms. Bridget
